Ernst Lubitsch,nato nel 1892 a Berlino, è stato un regista, attore, sceneggiatore e produttore cinematografico tedesco naturalizzato statunitense, noto per aver contribuito, anche in virtù del suo caratteristico tocco, a segnare un'epoca per il cinema statunitense; è stato tra i primi registi ad avere l'onore di vedere il suo nome posizionato prima del titolo sui manifesti e negli elenchi del cast. Tra i suoi capolavori: Il ventaglio di Lady Windermere (1925), Ninotchka (1939), Scrivimi fermo posta (1940), Vogliamo vivere! (1942), Il cielo può attendere (1943)... Morì il 30 novembre 1947.

 

LA SONORIZZAZIONE

Dopo la suggestiva performance al Soundscreen 2020, che li ha visti sonorizzare il gotico Vampyr di C.T. Dreyer, i musicisti Paolo Spaccamonti e Ramon Moro tornano in formazione duo a Ravenna, per musicare uno dei film più vivaci e grotteschi del 1919. La bambola di carne è infatti un vero e proprio gioiello di humour nero e anti-misoginia, governato da un Ernst Lubitsch in stato di grazia, che sfoggia tutta la sua sfrenata creatività tra malcelato erotismo e anticlericalismo.

Ernst Lubitsch, born in 1892 in Berlin, was a German-born American film director, actor, screenwriter, and producer, known for having contributed, also by virtue of his characteristic touch, to mark an era for American cinema; he was among the first directors to have the honor of seeing his name placed before the title on posters and cast lists. Among his masterpieces: Lady Windermere's Fan (1925), Ninotchka (1939), The Shop Around the Corner (1940), To Be or Not to Be (1942), Heaven Can Wait (1943) ... He died on November 30, 1947

 

THE LIVE SCORE

After their evocative performance at Soundscreen 2020, which saw them score C.T. Dreyer's gothic Vampyr, musicians Paolo Spaccamonti and Ramon Moro return as a duo to Ravenna to score one of the liveliest and most grotesque films of 1919. The Doll is in fact a true jewel of black humor and anti-misogyny, mastered by an Ernst Lubitsch in a state of grace, who shows off all his unbridled creativity between poorly concealed eroticism and anti-clericalism.
