Da qualche parte a nord, nell'età del massimo splendore moderno, c'è un uomo che desidera ardentemente una connessione ma non riesce a liberarsi, e una donna che si sente estranea al mondo che ha tutto programmato per lei ma senza di lei. Fanno del loro meglio per adattarsi e svolgere i loro ruoli ma faticano a connettersi con il mondo, con se stessi e con gli altri. Manca qualcosa di importante. Per quanto tempo è possibile resistere alla forza della vita?

Markku Hakala, nato nel 1975, Markku è un regista finlandese alle prime armi. Dopo una serie di esperimenti con cortometraggi, ha intrapreso il suo primo progetto di lungometraggio con la sua compagna di vita e d'arte Mari Käki: sei anni di folle lavoro insieme su tutti gli aspetti del film, dalla pre alla post produzione. Il risultato, Giant's Kettle, può essere visto come un resoconto personale sull'essere intrappolati nella storia sbagliata, senza riuscire a trovare una via d'uscita.

Mari Käki è una coach creativa e supervisore professionista nel campo dei media e dell'istruzione. Dal 2020 insegna leadership e dinamiche di gruppo per i registi emergenti come visiting lecturer presso la scuola di cinema dell'Università di Aalto, Finlandia. Giant's Kettle è il suo primo lungometraggio.

 

Somewhere up north at the age of peak modern there is a man longing for connection but unable to break loose, and a woman feeling alien to the world which has everything figured out for her, without her.

They make their best to fit in and fulfill their roles but struggle to connect with the world, themselves and others. Something important is missing. For how long is it possible to resist the force of life?

Markku Hakala, born in 1975, he is a first-time filmmaker from Finland. After a series of experiments with short films he embarked on his first feature film project with his partner in love and art, Mari Käki, a mad six years of working together on all aspects of the film from pre- to post-production. The resulting film, Giant’s Kettle, may be seen as a personal account of being trapped in the wrong story unable to find a way out.

Mari Käki is a creative coach and professional supervisor in the field of media and education. Since 2020 she has been teaching leadership and group dynamics for upcoming filmmakers as a visiting lecturer at the Aalto University film school, Finland. Giant’s Kettle is her first feature.
