Alla fine degli Venti, in Ucraina come nel resto dell'Unione Sovietica, sta iniziando la collettivizzazione delle terre, creando conflitti tra giovani e vecchi, tra ricchi proprietari (i kulaki) e contadini poveri. Il giovane contadino comunista Vasilij Trubenko, insieme agli amici, vorrebbe costituire una cooperativa e lavorare utilizzando i moderni mezzi meccanici, ma suo padre Opanas, legato alla tradizione della proprietà privata familiare, rifiuta di partecipare all'impresa. 

 

At the end of the Twenties, in Ukraine as in the rest of the Soviet Union, the collectivization of lands is beginning, creating conflicts between young and old, between rich owners (the kulaks) and poor peasants. The young communist farmer Vasily Trubenko, along with friends, would like to set up a cooperative and work using modern mechanical means, but his father Opanas, tied to the tradition of private family ownership, refuses to participate in the enterprise. 

 

Aleksandr Dovženko

Aleksandr Petrovich Dovzhenko è nato il 10 settembre 1894 a Vyunishche, Sosnitsa Ueyzd, Governatorato di Chernigov, Impero Russo (ora Sosnitsa, Sosnitsa Raion, Chernigov Oblast, Ucraina). Fu scrittore e regista, noto per La terra (1930), Michurin (1949) e Shchors (1939). Morì il 25 novembre 1956 a Mosca.

 

Aleksandr Dovzhenko was born on September 10, 1894 in Vyunishche, Sosnitsa Ueyzd, Chernigov Governorate, Russian Empire (now Sosnitsa, Sosnitsa Raion, Chernigov Oblast, Ukraine). He was a writer and director, known for Earth (1930), Michurin (1949) and Shchors (1939). He died on November 25, 1956 in Moscow.

EARTHSET

Earthset è un quartetto alt-rock bolognese composto da Luigi Varanese, Costantino Mazzoccoli, Emanuele Orsini ed Ezio Romano, insieme dal 2012. Dopo l’esordio del 2015 con In a State of Altered Unconsciousness, nel 2018 realizzano la sonorizzazione del film muto L’Uomo Meccanico, pellicola italo-francese del 1921 restaurata dalla Cineteca di Bologna mentre, su commissione del Soundscreen Film Festival di Ravenna, producono un nuovo cine-concerto per il film Nosferatu di Murnau, presentato in esclusiva all’edizione 2020 del Festival. Il gruppo ha dato alle stampe lo scorso mese di marzo al loro ultimo album Bound, per la Dischi Bervisti. 

 

Earthset presenteranno in anteprima al SOUNDSCREEN FILM FESTIVAL una inedita sonorizzazione de La Terra. Pellicola del 1930 scritta e diretta da Dovženko, è considerata il capolavoro del regista ucraino-sovietico, un poema lirico e corale che al di lá della mera vicenda storica in esso descritta (la collettivizzazione delle terre nell'Ucraina post rivoluzionaria) pone al centro dell'occhio dello spettatore la natura ed il legame tra l'uomo e la terra.

 

Earthset is an alt-rock quartet from Bologna, composed of Luigi Varanese, Costantino Mazzoccoli, Emanuele Orsini and Ezio Romano, together since 2012. After their debut in 2015 with In a State of Altered Unconsciousness, in 2018 they made the soundtrack for the silent film L'uomo meccanico (1921), an Italian-French film restored by the Cineteca di Bologna. Commissioned by the SSFF, they produce a new cine-concert for Murnau's film Nosferatu, presented exclusively at the 2020 edition of the Festival. the group released their latest album Bound last March, for Dischi Bervisti. 

 

Earthset will preview an unpublished soundtrack of La Terra at the SOUNDSCREEN FILM FESTIVAL. Written and directed by Dovženko in 1930, it is considered the masterpiece of the Ukrainian-Soviet director, a lyric and choral poem about, beyond the mere historical event described in it (the collectivization of lands in post-revolutionary Ukraine), nature and the link between man and the earth.
